Sir, |
I have just recd your letter and fully concur with you
as to the propriety of the step you have taken. To prevent confusion
arising from the military occupation of a portion of Ky by the
Confederate troops the Board here directed me to run the Road keeping it
ope &c. |
But Genl Buckner committed the charge of the Road to Mr
Fleece {Superintendent, Memphis, Clarksville &
Louisville RR} and then he appointed Mr Smith Tennessean. You
will ??t however that Genl Buckner published a letter requesting the
stockholders of the various counties to take possession of the Road and
I have been expecting you to do so. I have no doubt but that you will
find everything square to a cent as fr myself I have had nothing to do
with it. |
Of course we have no rights in these promises and
whatever you choose to do in this matter will be all right. It is
your Road and you can do with it just as you please -- we desire however
to make a friendly and profitable running arrangement that will be
mutually beneficial. I hope as soon as you complete your organization
for the Memphis Branch {of the Louisville &
Nashville RR} you will send the names of your officials. |
Respectfully |
Yr Obt Sevt |

& Louisville RR} |
