   I have the honor to state in reply to your letter of 22d Inst. that Maj. John Goodwin, A. Q. M. passed through this city February 19th last on his way to take charge off the East Tennessee & Virginia Rail Road, and I learn that he is still there.

   The above endorsement was ansd by letter to Qr Mr Gen'l Nov 13th/64 enclosing copy of my orders with this letter.
   I was ordered to Lynchburg from Dalton Georgia to report to R. L. Owen Mil Supt Va & Tenn R. Rd March 1st 1864 by command of Genl Joe E Johnston in pursuance of orders from the War Dept. Arrived at Lynchburg March 6th. Reported same day and was ordered to take chrg of Va & Tenn R Rd as Gen'l Supt. Have acted in this capacity since that time. I enclose copy of my orders again.
