General, |
On the 12th of January 1863 C. S. A.
car No 1, formerly Ga RR No 1736 was at Meridian, Miss. On
30th January 1863 without my permission, it was loaded and sent
to Vicksburg from which place it did not return as is shown by the
annexed certificate of Mr. T. H. Talley Agt of So RR at Meridian. |
Though I was responsible for this car yet
my post, Richmond, Va. was so far distant, that it was impossible for
me to exercise control over it & I beg to be allowed to drop
it. |
I have taken every step to find the car
but cannot & as it never returned from Vicksburg to Meridian &
cannot now be found I hereto annex my affidavit that I believe it was
either captured or destroyed by the enemy at Vicksburg, Jackson or
Granada. This is the best evidence I can get. |
Very Respectfully |
