My dear Sir,
|
It has occurred to me that you might be in
want of some person in your Bureau who is thoroughly acquainted with
all matters pertaining to Rail Road ??? personally, both theoretically
& practically either as a Chief Clerk or in some such capacity, to
whom you might assign the job of supervising matters of detail, to
which your position & time would not allow you the opportunity of
applying yourself to personally. If you have such a position to fill,
I think I can suggest a gentleman to you, whom you would find a most
valuable assistant in such duty. It is Mr. Jas. P. Robertson, the
former Supt. of this Road. He is now the Supt of the Western RR from
Fayetteville to the Coal Fields in this State. He contemplates
resigning that position. Mr. R. is an Engineer by profession & was
the Supt for me for 8 years -- ??? aborn there was none better. He
resigned here on account of his health some 12 months ago, but has now
recovered his health & is desirous of putting himself in the line
of his profession again. He accepted the appointment of Supt of the
Fayetteville Road, though his health was weak at the time, because it
was a short road, only 40 miles long, no great deal of ???,
& having once before been its Supt. was familiar with its affairs
& therefore its management was no great tax upon his strength. He
is a gentleman of fine character, intelligent, firm & decided. I
have no doubt that if you wish an occupant for such a position that he
would be the man to serve you. |
Will be pleased to hear from you. |
