Sir, |
I have secured two (2) engines and (40)
forty cars for the Richmond & Danville RRoad??? for delivering
them at West Point Ga, so far as circumstance will permit. One of the
engines and probably all the cars, will have to remain under the
control of the Govt, as the proper owners have no ????? in the
Confederacy. I am having them put in proper repair and shall keep an
accurate acct of the expenses incurred & the receipts for rents
&c, and of other engine, however, named "Cossitt" {of
the Memphis & Ohio RR} has an
party in the Confederacy to represent it, I have hired from that party on
the following terms: |
From the date of landing at West Point
until the first trip over R&D RRd the pay is to be $30 per day,
after that trip the pay is to be 30c per mile for every mile run to be
returned in as good order as when received, ordinary wear and tear
excepted and to be paid for if captured by the enemy. |
I would suggest that the R&D RRd take
the contract off the hands of Govt. It will simply multiply accts to
have me collected the money & pay it over to the owners. |
Very respectfully |
