General, |
The employees from civil life in this
office are working day and night on an average of twelve hours, --
this being the only office in your Department which attends to
business after night, and their compensation is wholly inadequate to
their support. They have experience & fidelity and remain for the
sake of the cause; but will seek more profitable employment unless
their compensation is increased. Can you not make them Agents of the
Dept. and give them $140.-- per month? I trust they may be retained in
service. Without them they present press of business could not be
attended to. |
Respectfully |
