Sir, |
In reply to yours of 14th handed me
yesterday dealing with relation to a number of "Flat Cars"
laying idle I have to inform you that from the communication that
passed between your clerk or representative & myself on Saturday I
was under the impression that the cars in question were at the depot
??? of the Qr Mr Genl and had been for sometime, and was more arrive of
this from the fact that Major Maynard was removing two of them during my
conversation with your clerk. It is not the wish of the Govt to take possession of the
property without first making the necessary arrangement as to compensation
etc. It is my purpose to offer you the usual rates for such cars used
on other roads and further promise to deliver the cars on return. The same
order as received The use of the cars is of the utmost importance to the Govt to
transport the ??? iron being taken up on the C Rl Road {probably
Virginia Central RR} by the Engineer Bureau and I trust you will let
that Department have the cars
which will be of ????? these five or six ??? on ??? above ????? |
Very respectfully |
