I herewith enclose a telegram from
yourself, presented to me this morning, which affords an example among
many other, of the very unnecessary use of the telegraph by officers
of this Dept. |
Col. Sims of R. R. Bureau had just
returned from Danville, & through him this Bureau was in full
knowledge of the necessities of that Road, rendering it altogether
unnecessary that you should telegraph to another officer in a
different branch of the QM Dept. to "use his influence to send
additional Engines." The attention of our officers has often been
called to the too free use of the telegraph & warning given that
the cost of such messages would be charged against them. You will
therefore not permit this to remain a charge against this Dept. |
