A letter has been received
from you dated August 20th 1864 at "Transportation Office" Salisbury N.
C. containing certain enquiries in regard to the appointment and duties
of Transportation Agents. |
You are informed that your
name does not appear on the List of Q. M. Agents in this office and you
are requested to report by what authority you are acting as such. Agents
of this Department are appointed at the instance of the Qr. Master Genl,
when necessary and are subject to the orders of the post quarter master
of the post at which they may be on duty through whom such agent reports
to this office. |
The law provides that the
compensation of agents shall not exceed the pay of a Captain of
Infantry. |
