Your letter of August 9th in regard to the
impressment of an additional part of the oat crop within your reach &
giving your reasons for the same, was referred for remarks to Maj. C. S.
Carrington. He is sure that the amount of shipments of long forage from
N. Carolina can be increased from this time forward, & has taken steps
to accomplish that result. In view of this fact & of the promptness with
which the calls of the Govt for forage have been met by the farmers as
also of the necessity for allowing them sufficient to carry on their
fallowing seeding &c now just to be commenced, it is deemed inexpedient
to order a further impressment of the oat crop. |
