In the class of cases referred to in your letter of the
15th instant. All of the Virginia Rail Roads as also those of N.
Carolina, transport free of charge. This is the result of resolutions
adopted and published by them and is intended to benefit soldiers who
could not under the army regulation be furnished with transportation.
Sick soldiers on leave are allowed to pass on Surgeons Certificate, and
dead bodies likewise are carried free. It is my desire to have these
liberal provisions extended in practice; and I should be glad to hear
that they have been adopted by you. |
