Sir, |
In my letter to you of the 2d. of July
last, I directed the delivery of the two Locomotives from Leesburg to
be made to Mr. Goldsborough, Supt. of the Manassas Gap R. R. Co. upon
the conditions therein specified. Since then, the removal of General
Johnston's Hd. Qrs to Manassas, and the withdrawal of troops from
Winchester makes it very important to render all practicable aid to
the line of railway transportation between Richmond and Manassas. I
must therefore modify my original order, and require the engines
referred to above to be delivered to the Virginia Central and Orange
& Alexa Rail road Companies, to be employed upon their respective
roads for the present, and until other and further arrangements are
ordered. |
