Petersburg, Va. |

Sir, |
The suggestions contained in your letter
of the 21st are approved. You will relieve Major Branch of the general
duty connected with Rail Road transportation, especially of Troops and
freight in bulk, leaving him, as Post-Quarter Master to see to
individuals claiming transportation, and local freight. Major Branch
will also erect the necessary buildings for storage purposes, and pay
the hire of hands employed. |
You can assume the control of the
transportation between Petersburg and Weldon, and also Raleigh and
will visit either of those places as occasion may require. |
