Major, |
A letter from Henry M. Drane
Esqr, General Superintendent of the Wilmington & Manchester Rail
Road Company to Captain McKinney Chief Commissary at Wilmington, North
Carolina, has been referred to me from the War Department. This letter
states that the Wilmington & Manchester Road is so deficient in
cars, that it is unable without assistance from other Roads to
transport necessary supplies for the Government. It states that the
Georgia, and South Carolina Roads have each a large stock of cars, and
could, between them, furnish the needed number, twelve, each Road
furnishing six. Mr. Drane expresses the opinion, that with twelve box
cars, all the required transportation can be furnished. |
You are instructed,
immediately upon the receipt of this to arrange with the Georgia Rail
Road for the use on the Wilmington & Manchester Road, of such box
cars as can be spared, and to communicate on the subject with Major
Huston Lee, Quarter Master at Charleston, to whom I have given like
instructions in regard to the South Carolina Rail Road. |
