I have your letter of 17th instant. You
will please examine as far as you can into charges on freights for the
Confederate States, and correct all irregularities or impositions you
discover. |
Of course you will telegraph me whenever
the public interest requires it. |
I understand from Colonel W. S. Ashe,
President W. & Weldon R. Road and R. L. Owen, Presdt. Va. & Tenn.
Railroad that the telegraph companies have no right to make any charge
on communications made to R. Road Presidents, or sent by them. Cannot
the Dispatches be sent through Mr. C. Wallace. The Confederate States
have use for rigid economy. |
