W. S. Ashe Esqr. {President,
Wilmington & Weldon RR} |
Wilmington |
N. Carolina |
|
Sir, |
I enclose you copy of a letter addressed
to me by W. T. Joynes Esqr. President P. & W. {the
Petersburg RR, frequently called the Petersburg & Weldon, after
the cities on each end of the road} R. R. on the subject of the
detention of freight at Weldon belonging to the Confederate States. |
The detention of supplies for the army at
this crisis impairs so materially the efforts of the Government for
efficiency, that I am compelled to ask your correction of the orders
that have been given at Wilmington, N. C. especially too as they
conflict with the arrangements made between the R. Roads through their
Presidents of which you were one, and the Confederate States. |
