Sir, |
I have received your letter of June
26th and in reply have to say that, as the three engines you describe
will be of value to the Manassas Gap Rail Road Company and the Orange
& Alexandria R. R. Co. you will see if these roads, one or both,
will take the Engines, repair them and allow the Confederate States
what they are worth. The Cars will be of value to those companies as
well as the Richmond & Manassas {Virginia
Central?} R. R. Co. and may be used in common. Arrange with
them for this. |
In regard to the tools, they must be put in
some secure place until we get the enemy out of Alexandria, when the
Orange & Alexandria R. R. can use the tools in the shop at Alexa. |
If you cannot dispose of the engines on the
terms stated, it may be necessary to bring them to Richmond to be set
aside for future use. |
