Sir, |
I am in receipt of your letter of the 23d
instant. I submitted it to the Commissary General, and he consents
that the further transportation of Rice, Sugar, and Molasses can, for
the present, be stopped. Other articles of Subsistence must come
forward at once. He adds that the Corn referred to as damaged, will,
if unfit for issue, be turned over to the Quarter Master's Department
on its arrival When the delay of Government freight is inevitable, you
can exercise your discretion and stop the same at Columbia, or even at
points beyond. |
I have endeavored to procure the Engine
you call for through Mr. Dudley {President,
Richmond & York River RR}. He says, however, that he has
but one, and that he can't spare. |
