Quartermaster General's Department |
Richmond, 24th June 1862 |

Mr S Sagan |
Saltville Va |
|
Sir, |
I have received your letter of the 19th instant in
which you request that I will give you facilities for transporting a lot
of iron from the State of Georgia to Saltville Va to be used in the
manufacture of salt on account of the State of Georgia. |
The necessities of the public are so great at times, in
connection with the transportation of troops and military supplies, that
I cannot give a preemptory order, such as you desire; but at the same
time I am willing to extend to you all the aid in my power; and to that
end you may exhibit this letter to all officers of this Department and
subordinate agents, who will regard the same as instructions to them to
furnish you the transportation you need, at your own cost, when the same
can be done without injury to the Service. |
