Sir, |
You are hereby appointed Transportation
Agent for the Quarter Maters Department at Kingsville, and Branchville,
South Carolina. Head Quarters at Kingsville. |
Your Salary will be one Thousand dollars
per annum, payable monthly by the Quarter Master at Columbia, South
Carolina. |
You will supervise, report upon, and expedite, the
transportation of troops, munitions of war, and all Army Supplies, use
your best endeavors to prevent all delays resulting from failures of
connections of trains, and prevent any unnecessary detention of trains
or cars at any of the depots, or the use of them for storing supplies or
baggage. |
You will see that Stores are promptly and expeditiously
forwarded. |
Grant transportation to those entitled to it and to
supplies according to Circulars emanating from time to time from the
Quarter Master General. |
Give a transportation ticket to each road and number
your tickets, and vouchers. |
Notify the next Quarter Master or Agent when troops are
shipped, that he may be prepared to forward them without delay. |
Report monthly your labors, and also all the delays,
collisions, or refusals of the Railroads to obey your orders. |
See that cars and engines belonging to the Railroads
are promptly returned to their proper stations. |
You must not interfere with the management of
Railroads. |
The Quarter Master at Columbia, South Carolina, will
furnish you with books, stationery and blanks. |
The Railroad Companies generally furnish our agents
with an office or office room. |
Government freight must in all cases have preference
over Express or private freight. |
