Sir |
The East Tennessee & Georgia and East
Tennessee & Virginia Rail Roads being long lines comparatively I
assent to the proposal of the Presidents of these Roads that the rates
of transporting Government freights be advanced twenty five per
cent upon the present rates charged it by them. |
I do not understand the proposition to
include the rates for transporting Soldiers etc which are fixed at two
cents per mile nor do I ascent to any increase in these rates. |
This increased allowance for freights is
Special and only applies to the roads mentioned. |
