Sir, |
I have received your letter complaining of the failure
of Major Dillard to comply with the terms of a contract made by him with
Messrs Tosbett Tate and Richardson. |
Major Dillards course, I know, has been to distribute
the Hides as much as he could to avoid the accumulation of too many at
one point, which might hazzard their safety. This applies with
particular force to the point to which you allude Chattanooga. I cannot
therefore direct as you request, that the firm to which you refer shall
have all the Hides coming from the Army under General Bragg. I will,
however, tell Major Dillard to furnish you with a fair proportion of the
Hides he controls: and will also direct him to comply strictly, and
promptly with that feature of the contract, which secures him one half
of the hides tanned and the right to take the remainder at market rates. |
