Quartermaster General's Department |

|
Circular |
|
The Railroad companies named on the
following page, having agreed, at a Convention held in this City {Montgomery,
Alabama}, on the 26th of April, 1861, to receive at par, the
Bonds of the Confederate States, in payment for the transportation of
Troops and Supplies belonging thereto, and other important Companies,
since that date, given notice of their adoption of the same policy;
you will have forwarded to this office, all such accounts for
transportation of troops and supplies, as may be presented, properly
certified to and audited monthly. |
Thereupon the proper bonds will be at once
issued and returned for delivery to the parties entitled to receive
them. |
This department feels confident that all
the Rail road Companies, within the limits of the Slave states, not
yet heard from will promptly adopt the same liberal policy in
sustaining the government. |
You will earnestly represent to the people
of the section of the country in which you are located, how important
it is to the successful conduct of the military operations of the
government, that they should carefully preserve all the extra Grain
and Hay from the growing crop, now understood to promise an abundant
yield. |
