Sir, |
You state in your letter of the 26th
March, that your Road is not "paying expenses" and
"cannot hold our much longer" without an increase of rates
on Government transportation, and ask that your Road be allowed in
future to charge fifty per cent upon Chattanooga rates, making three
cents per mile per man, for Troops and thirty cents per 100 pounds per
100 miles for freights. |
Relying upon the accuracy of the exhibits,
and statement contained in your letter, and upon the recommendations
of Captain C. E. Williams, Assistant Quarter Master, and Major Geo. A.
Turner, Post Quarter Master at Grenada, which accompany your letter, I
am of the opinion that the increase asked for is just and proper. |
This letter will be delivered to the
Quarter Master who audits and pays your accounts as his authority for
allowing the increased rates indicated. |
