Sir, |
The Alabama & Florida {of
Florida} Rail Road Company claim, for the iron etc taken from
their Road, a higher price than that fixed by Mr. Samuel Tate in his
estimate, which established the rates paid by your Company for the
iron used upon the Mississippi & Alabama {Rivers}
Road. In regard to this claim the Secretary of War has decided
that the value of the iron should be ascertained as of the date when
it was taken. |
Evidence has been presented showing higher
prices, than those estimated by Mr. Tate, to have been paid for Rail
Road iron; but the proofs filed in the papers are not deemed
conclusive or complete. |
It is particularly desirable that full
evidence and information should be supplied as to the ruling prices or
value of iron etc at the precise date when the iron was taken from the
Alabama & Florida Rail Road. I have to request, therefore, that,
at as early a date as may be practicable, you will transmit to this
office, as complete information on this point as can be obtained. |
