Sir, |
I have been informed that for some time
previous to the 25th of March, corn of the Government has been
transported from Macon to Savannah whilst Government corn has been
transported at the same moment from Savannah to Macon. |
This statement is surprising, as it is
difficult to comprehend, what possible pretext there could be for this
unnecessary tax upon the Rail Road transportation, insufficient as it is
for the necessary demands of the Government. |
The subject is brought to your attention
with the request that you will transmit a report to this office, showing
under what circumstances, this double transportation has occurred and
whether the Quarter Master's or Commissary Department is responsible for
it. |
