Sir, |
Governor Vance of North Carolina will direct 30,000
bushels of corn, weighing 56 lbs to the bushel {93
car loads}, belonging to the State of North Carolina, to be
turned over to the Confederate States. In exchange for this corn, a like
quantity will be turned over, at your post, to the State of North
Carolina. You will therefore secure at Charlotte, North Carolina, with
all dispatch, 30,000 bushels of corn, weighing 56 lbs to the bushel and
turn over the same to any duly accredited officer, or agent of Governor
Vance, who may be authorized to receipt for this corn. |
Captain G. H. Brown at Tarboro and Captain L. W.
Venable at Weldon will receive the 30,000 bushels to be turned over by
the State of North Carolina, and will receipt therefor to the agent of
Governor Vance. Upon the transfer of these receipts to you, you will
deliver 30,000 bushels of corn, at Charlotte to the authorized agent of
the State of North Carolina. The receipts of Captains Brown and Venable
will be filed with your property accounts, as an offset to your purchase
of the 30,000 bushels turned over by you to the State. You will note
that this order is not to interfere with your monthly delivery, under
previous orders of 3,500 bushels of corn {11 car
loads} to E Wilkes & Co. contractors of the Piedmont Rail Road
Company. |
