Sir, |
General Order, No 95, November 25th 1862,
which is based on an Act of Congress, makes it my duty to arrange with
Rail Road Companies to reserve seats in one, or more cars, as may be
found necessary, for the use of sick and wounded soldiers, and their
attendants; and until they are seated to prevent other persons from
taking those reserved cars; also to require the trains to provide for
the sick and wounded an ample supply of pure water. All necessary
arrangements for the accommodation of the sick when traveling on the
Rail Roads, were made by me prior to the issuing of General Order, No
98: but, as that transfers to your charge all matters connected with
Rail Road transportation, I think it proper to call your attention to
the above, that you may enforce the same, according to your own
system. |
