Yours of the 22nd has been received and
contents carefully noted. There was no necessity for stopping
passenger trains this side of Weldon until freights began to
accumulate there, and instructions were issued accordingly. If the
trains between Charlotte and Weldon were not stopped, it was
because the officers at those posts were not as faithful to their duty
as Major Cameron was. The order was given and I have instituted
enquiry as to the manner in which it has been enforced. No
discrimination or partiality was intended or will be permitted |
