For the government of the Transportation Office |

1st |
Capt Eugene Carrington has charge of all shipments of
public stores turned over to this office for the Army and Navy, and has
special supervision of the Depot Agents and the disbursements of the
office. |
2nd |
Capt P. H. Mayo has charge of the transportation of
troops, officers & others under orders and on official business, and
soldiers on furlough; also of the Couriers & Mail from the A. & I.
Genl's Office to Genl R. E. Lee's Hd Quarters. |
3rd |
So far as practicable, one of these
officers will be on duty at all hours; and, during emergencies they will
alternate in remaining at the office all night, and they will be
consulted in regard to the duties pertaining to their respective
branches. |
4th |
The office will be open at all hours, day
and night for the transaction of business with the various Departments.
The following regular hours are adopted for the public generally, viz: |
8 AM |

And on Sundays: |
9 to 10 AM |
and |
7 to 8 PM |

During the furlough seasons the office will be kept
open until every soldier is waited upon. |
5th |
Every person connected with the office is
to be on duty punctually, and no one will absent himself without leave. |
6th |
No one will be allowed to read books,
smoke or lounge during office hours; and drinking or swearing is
positively prohibited. The doors and windows must not be obstructed by
any one during office hours. |
7th |
It is expected that all persons engaged in
the office will remain at their respective desks ready for duty, whether
there be anything on hand or not. |
8th |
Depot Agents are required to report, in
person, at this office at least once a day, and thereafter to remain at
their respective Depots during the hours the same are open to the public
for the transaction of business, & to hold themselves in readiness for
the shipment of troops or stores during irregular hours if necessary. |
9th |
The couriers in charge of the regular mail
for Gen Leer's head quarters will report punctually at this office &
will remain ready for any extra duty that may be required of them. |
10th |
At least two persons, besides the officer
in charge, will be required to remain on duty in each office every
night, to meet emergencies. |
11th |
Ladies, and badly wounded officers &
soldiers, will have precedence in attention. Priority will also be given
to requisitions from the various local officers at this Post. All other
persons must wait their regular turn. |
12th |
All the employees of this office are
particularly admonished to observe the rules of courtesy & politeness
toward all persons having business therewith. |
13th |
It is expected that the gentlemen in this
office will always exhibit an enormous zeal in executing whatever duty
they may be called upon to perform, in or out of office hours, and in
endeavors generally to advance the public interests. |
