Colonel, |
The bridge of the {Virginia}
Central RR over the Cowpasture river is not yet commenced &
will not be completed till next summer. The country west of this river
is now a waste and affords no inducement for the road to build the
bridge, yet the Superintendent thinks he would be permitted by his
President to trestle the stream, provided the Government would
guarantee the trestle for one year or until the completion of the
bridge. This is a very rapid stream and trestles would be
liable to be swept away at every rise of the water. |
I understand that there is a
good turnpike from Cow Pasture river to Covington (19 1/2 miles). |
