Quartermaster General's Department |
Richmond, Dec. 22d 1863 |

Genl. R. E. Lee |
Commanding etc |
|
General, |
Referring to a conversation with you on
Saturday the 19th instant, I take leave to state, for your
information, that seven thousand three hundred (7300) bushels of grain
{about 26 carloads -- almost 2 full trains} were
shipped from Richmond, by {Virginia} Central Rail Road, on Friday and Saturday;
and the report of this morning shows that over 4700 were shipped
yesterday, so that the use of the cars on the upper end of the Road
has not stopped the shipment of corn, as was threatened. |
