| The Secretary of War informs me that the sum of (15000)
Fifteen thousand dollars was advanced by the War Department to the Rail
Road Company at Montgomery of which Mr Pollard is President, to be
reimbursed out of transportation on Government account; and instructed
me to offset the amount, until exhausted, against any bills due that
road on account of transportation. I communicate with you on the
subject, that you may act understandingly, should the Rail Road account
be presented to you for settlement. Major Calhoun, at Montgomery, has
been instructed to like effect. |
