| Under instruction from the Secretary of
War I have to inform that the sum of $15000 was advanced by the
Government to the Rail Road Company at Montgomery of which Mr. Pollard
is President {Mr. Pollard was President of two
railroads in Montgomery -- the Montgomery & West Point and the
Alabama & Florida (of Alabama). It was probably the latter road
that received the loan.}, to be reimbursed out of
transportation. You will therefore offset this amount against any
claim for transportation in favor of said company, until the same
shall be exhausted. |
