Sir, |
I have your favor of the 29th ulto, and
feel gratified at the report you make of the freight for Government
having all been forwarded. I assure you there has never been a time
when it hea,(?) preferred to send freight from Chattanooga via
Wilmington, N. C. except when the roads on the upper route were
blocked up with freight. In this connection I beg leave, to give you
an extract from a letter of 30th ulto, just received by me from Major
H. T. Ramey who was designated by the Secretary of War "to clear
the Roads of Freight, between Richmond & Chattanooga." |
I have directed all freight destined for
Richmond or Manassas to be forwarded over the Tennessee and Va.
Road." |
I directed Capt. A. A. Burleson AQM at
Knoxville when he returned to his post from Richmond " which he
has done by this time, to take promptly the accounts held by C. J.
Wallace against the C. S. A. I really thank you for
the earnest zeal, and efficiency with which you have aided the
Government in every way, that it has been in your power to do. |
