Quartermaster General's Department |
Richmond, Nov. 24th 1863 |

Major J. W. Cameron |
Chief Q. M. |
Wilmington N. C. |
|
Sir, |
Your communication of the 21st instant has
been received. |
Your purpose to accumulate a supply of
corn at Wilmington to furnish supplies in case of a siege or the
interruption of communications, is approved. But it is important that
its execution do not interfere with existing arrangements to supply
forage for the Army of Northern Virginia. |
You are accordingly referred to Major C.
S. Carrington now in the South, with whom you can arrange for the
transportation of corn at such times as may not conflict with his
occupation of the roads. |
