I am directed by the Q. M. Genl. to
inquire of you why you do not ship corn direct to Petersburg when
there are trains at Danville from Petersburg. It appears that corn is
still shipped to Burkeville to be trans-shipped direct to Petersburg
& while there are known to be trains at Danville by which it might
be shipped direct to Petersburg & which, it is reported, return
empty. Your are instructed in all cases where it is possible to ship
direct instead of to Burkeville to be transshipped for reasons that
will plainly suggest themselves. |
