Sir, |
Your letter of the 5th inst. represents
the necessity of supplying the Hospital, at Charlottesville, with fuel
for the winter & expresses a doubt whether the same can be done
without the aid of the {Virginia} Central
Rail Road. I have conferred with Mr. Whitcomb Supert of that road, in
relation to this important matter; & I regret to say that he
reports his utter inability to aid you. He says that the road can
barely transport the wood needed for ordinary repairs, &
consumption at the various stations. I avail of the earliest
opportunity to inform you of the result, that no time may be lost in
making other arrangements, and to that end I instruct the Actg. Asst.
Q. Master at your post by the mail of today. |
