Sir, |
Yours of 24 ins only reached me last
night; & I was not a little surprised to learn that the proposed
management for your trains to haul Govt. freight to Petersburg was not
consummated, on account of "some objections" I had raised.
I am unable to recall anything I said or did which could authorize the
statement made by Mr. Bird. I have never objected by word or act to
the proposition made by Col. Sims & my letter of 27th ins (which I
hope you have received before this) must have satisfied you as to my
desire to see these trains at work under that offer. Not a day
should be lost. I beg to refer you again to my letter of the 27th
as the best reply to the suggestion of obstacles interposed by me. |
