It is reported to me that there is no
Cotton at Wilmington for shipment on account of this Department. I
desire that you will report immediately on the receipt of this what
Cotton you have purchased on account of this Bureau, stating cost per
lb. and where the same is now located. You will inform me also, what
your arrangements and prospects are for investing in a like manner,
any unexpended balance on hand remitted for the purchase of Cotton. If
there are any special difficulties in the way of the transportation of
Cotton at distant points to Wilmington, let me know what they are. You
were informed I believe, that the Cotton marked R. P. W. had been
purchased for the use of Major Waller, Quarter Master, now at Nassau. |
