Yours of 15th has just been received,
& in reply I am instructed by the Qr Mr Genl to request you to
send on the names, with description of the men whom you wish detailed.
If they have certificates of unfitness for field service, or are
between 45 & 50 the details will be allowed. But the Sect of War
will not release men who are fit for active army duty. |
You were written to some days since
suggesting that the payments for transportation by steamboat as well
as by rail be made by Maj Le Baron. It is desirable to concentrate the
settlement of transportation in as few hands as possible & to
relieve officers charged with superintendence of transportation from
the labor of auditing & settling accounts. |
