Your letter of the 8th inst. relative to
the transportation of sugar, on private account, from New Orleans to
this point, was duly received. On confirming with the Commissary
General as to the wants of his branch of the service, in this
particular item, I find that he has had some 1392 hogs of sugar coming
from the South, a portion of which he states has been on its way ever
since November last. Under the circumstances therefore I do not see
that I can extend to you any facilities, such as you suggest. |
