Mr. J. W. Howard,
transportation agent at Lynchburg reports the facilities for
transportation supplied by the Orange & Alexandria Rail Road, are
not in proportion to the large supplies of Government freights
received at that point for shipment to Manassas. He states,
particularly, that there are now at Lynchburg eight or nine car loads
of salt beef for the army, which is not moved forward with promptness,
and that, in addition, large quantities of forage and other stores are
detained although generally needed at Manassas. |
I bring this statement to your
notice, that you may take measures to have the causes of this delay
removed, as it is of the first importance that every facility should
be extended to the transportation of supplies demanded by the
necessities of the army. |
