Sir, |
I have written to Major Ranney {President,
New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern RR} asking that he
will aid you in procuring the additional engines you nee to perform
the work devolved on your road. I hope he will be able to assist you,
for otherwise I do not see what I can do for you. Engines are scare in
this region of country, and the difference of their gauge further
complicates the matter. I will instruct Major Burleson, as you desire,
to settle the accounts of the road at Knoxville, for Government
transportation. That which has accrued already for the month of
December, had better be settled here. I have referred your letter on
that subject to Lt Col Smith with directions to settle it as promptly
as possible. That will save delay as Major Burleson will have to
estimate for funds to meet this demand. |
