Mr. Wallace, President of the East
Tennessee & Georgia Rail Road, writes to me that the Engines of
that route are fast wearing out, and that in a short time he will be
unable to meet the demands of the services unless he can procure
assistance from some other point. He suggests that you can aid him and
asks that I will urge you to it. Mr. Wallace wants two good Engines
and is willing to pay a full price for them; and if you can; by any
means, put him in the way of obtaining them, I trust you will do so,
as it is all important to this Department and the country that the
motive power of the various roads should be so distributed as to
render all routs efficient. Please communicate with Mr. Wallace, as
well as this office, on the subject. |
