Sir, |
From the Central position of Montgomery,
its present direct and proposed connection in every direction by
Rail Road with all the important sources of supply for the Army as
well as its advantageous location for a Depot for the large station
at Pensacola I respectfully recommend that sufficient land be leased
or purchased contiguous to the Montgomery & Pensacola Rail Road
Depot {The Alabama & Florida (of Alabama) RR}
for the erection of cheap but secure store houses. They would
be made depositories for materials of every description appertaining
to the wants of the service requested for issue They would afford
storage room for supplies in transitu if necessary. A. Rough shelter
for troops when unavoidably detained here could also be attached to
the depot. The expenses of storages now necessarily hired would be
avoided |
Very Respectfully |
Your Obdt Servt |

Acting Quarter Master General |
