Sir, |
On the 25th of November last, by your direction, a
request was made from this office, that a remittance of $15,000
should be made to Captain John C Moore, Asst Quarter Master,
Galveston, Texas, to be applied by him for the use of the Texas &
New Orleans Rail Road Company. A draft was accordingly drawn by the
Treasurer for that sum, on the Asst. Treasurer at New Orleans, A J
Ginot, payable to Cap John A Moore, on order, & sent to Galveston.
It now appears that there is no such officer there, and the draft
has been returned to this office by Major Morise, at the request of
Mr Gentry, President of the Rail Road, with the suggestion that the
amount of that draft may be remitted to him. The President of the
Company represents that the work on te road is now rapidly
progressing & that these funds are needed. I accordingly request
that this draft, herein enclosed, may be returned to the Treasury
Department & cancelled, and that a new requisition may be issued in
favor of Major T. S. Morise for the same amount, payable in drafts
of $500 each, with instructions to apply the funds in the manner
heretofore directed. I also request that this be made a special case
for payment today. |
