By telegraph from Charlottesville To Col. A C Myers

A branch track to the {Virginia} Central Road four miles east of Charlottesville of less than one mile will reach the Rivannah River at a point where canal boats can take three hundred (300) BBls flour at extreme low water & five hundred bbls at ordinary water. There is a tow path from this point by the James River Canal.. The grading will be light & the grades no heavier than those on the Central at this point the grading will probably cost less than five thousand dollars. The work can be done in one weeks time by one hundred & fifty (150) men with the necessary tools. No powder required or if so not more than one hundred pounds will be needed. I will supply the iron & ties & give every facility to have the work speedily done at the cost of the Govt. As the bridges on both roads north of James River are burned this will offer a cheap & reliable means of transportation and I respectfully call your attention to it. If it is approved the necessary instructions should be issued at once that no time may be lost.
