| Transmits a communication from E Wilkes &
Sons contractors &c relative to transportation of corn &c for the
Piedmont RRoad. |

| This Department is not aware that it is bound
to furnish any supplies whatever to the Piedmont R Road. No contract has
ever been made between this Department and the RR Company. Every
facility has been extended to the Chief Engineer of the Road, by the
issue of shovels &c. I have also assigned to him an officer of the QM
Dept with powers to provide increased transportation and forage in aid
of its completion. Orders have been issued to transport their
contractors corn and these orders have been this day reiterated to the
QM officer in charge of transportation. |
