States that the O&A RRd
{Orange & Alexandria RR} cannot complete
the switch early enough to use this winter and asks that the proper
officer be ordered to furnish H. W. Vandergrift Supt with twenty men and
as many shovels half dozen picks and a small quantity of cast steel for
drills. |

Referred to Capt W H Irvin QM at
Charlottesville Va to furnish the necessary labor &c if it can be
obtained. He must make every effort as hands cannot be sent from any
other quarter. He will keep an accurate account of the labor and
material furnished by the Govt and send report of same to Maj Sims Supt
RR Bureau. |
